In October 2021, after more than one and a half years of travel restrictions due to the Corona pandemic, the Germany-based researchers of the SaliDraa-project were finally able to travel to the Draa river basin to conduct field work. After a group meeting in Marrakesh to finalize the field trip plans, the field work started together with the Moroccan colleagues, including 17 researchers associated with the SaliDraa project. While the ecological team visited all selected river sites to sample organisms from eu- and prokaryotic microorganism to fish, and measure physico-chemical parameters, the social team conducted interviews with local people. Although travel restrictions were implemented again by the end of October, leading to difficulties for the return travels, this field trip can be considered as very successful, finally providing long-awaited data for later analysis.
